Tesla 12V and high voltage battery service in Auckland

A Tesla that will not wake up, throws warnings at random or drops accessories is nearly always the small battery, not the big one. We replace 12V and lithium low voltage batteries, and check high voltage battery health properly.

Batteries

What we do

Two batteries doing two very different jobs. The small one runs the car electronics and fails like any other battery. The big one rarely fails, but owners want to know where it stands.

12V Low voltage battery replacement Lead-acid on earlier cars, lithium on later ones. Supplied, fitted and registered to the car so it charges the way it should.
Symptoms Car will not wake, random warnings A failing 12V produces a long list of unrelated-looking faults. It is worth ruling out before anything else gets replaced.
Testing 12V health check at every visit Tested every time the car is here, so you get warned before it strands you rather than after.
High voltage HV battery health check State of health, cell balance and charging behaviour, with a plain explanation of what is normal for the age and the kilometres.
Range Range and charging complaints Often driving pattern, climate use or charging habits rather than a failing pack. We measure before anyone panics.
Pre-purchase Battery report before you buy Battery health on a used Tesla, so the price you pay reflects the pack you are actually getting.

Car not waking up?

It is usually the low voltage battery, and it is usually a quick fix. Book it in and we will test it rather than guess at it.

The small battery

Most Tesla battery problems are the 12V

Every Tesla carries a small low voltage battery alongside the traction pack. It runs the screens, the locks, the contactors and everything that has to work before the high voltage system will come online. When it starts failing, the car behaves as though something far more serious is wrong.

The symptoms look random. Doors that will not unlock, a screen that will not come up, warnings that appear and clear on their own, charging that stops overnight. Earlier cars use a conventional lead-acid battery that lasts a few years. Later cars use a lithium unit that lasts longer but still ends up in the same place.

Replacement is straightforward and we register the new battery to the car so it charges correctly. The high voltage pack is a different story. Those rarely fail, and what owners usually want is a health check and an honest read on the numbers.

State of health testing

A certified Aviloo report on your high voltage battery

The battery is the most valuable part of the car and the hardest to judge from the driver's seat. The estimate on your screen is not a measurement, and range varies with weather, driving and charging habits enough to hide a real problem or invent one that is not there.

We test the pack independently and give you an Aviloo report: an independent, manufacturer-neutral assessment of what your battery is actually doing, in a document you can keep, hand to a buyer or take to a warranty claim.

Available as part of a routine service, or on its own as a full high voltage battery inspection.

Aviloo

Aviloo is an independent battery diagnostics company. The test runs on your car's own data rather than a manufacturer's estimate, and the report is neutral — it is not written by us and not written by Tesla.

Every model Model 3, Y, S and X
You keep it A document, not a verbal
What the report covers
State of health The usable capacity left in the pack against what it had when new, measured rather than estimated. This is the number that sets what the car is worth.
Cell and module balance How evenly the individual cells are performing. A weak module drags the whole pack down and shows up here long before it shows up in your range.
Real range, not the estimate What the pack will actually deliver, so you can tell the difference between a tired battery and a cold winter with the heater running.
Charging behaviour How the pack takes a charge across the range, including whether it is holding back on DC fast charging in a way that points at a fault.
Anomalies and error history Faults recorded by the battery management system, including intermittent ones that have cleared themselves and would otherwise never be seen.
Certified, independent document A dated report from Aviloo rather than a workshop opinion. It carries weight with buyers, insurers and warranty providers because we did not write it.

When it is worth doing

Before you buy a used Tesla, before you sell one, when the range has changed and you want to know whether that is the battery or the winter, and when a warranty claim needs evidence rather than an opinion. It is also worth having a baseline on the car while everything is healthy, so the next test has something to compare against.

How it works here

Book it with a service or on its own. We fit the test device, the car records its data over a normal charge and discharge, and the report comes back certified. We then sit down and go through it with you in plain language rather than handing over a PDF and leaving you to interpret it.

Battery questions

How long does a Tesla 12V battery last? The lead-acid batteries in earlier cars typically last a few years. The lithium low voltage batteries in later cars last longer, but they still fail eventually. We test yours at every visit so you get warning rather than a surprise.
What are the signs of a failing 12V battery? Doors that will not unlock, a screen that will not come up, warnings that appear and clear by themselves, accessories dropping out, and charging that stops overnight. If the car is behaving strangely in several unrelated ways at once, start here.
Can you replace a Tesla 12V battery outside Tesla? Yes, on every model, including the lithium units. We register the new battery to the car so it charges correctly, which matters as much as fitting it.
Can you check my high voltage battery health? Yes. You get state of health, charging behaviour and how the pack compares against its age and kilometres, explained in plain language.
My range has dropped. Is the battery failing? Usually not. Some degradation is normal and expected as a pack ages, and cold weather, short trips, heater use and charging habits all account for more than owners expect. We measure it before drawing conclusions.
★★★★★
Amazing service. The car hit a spot of bother, and I rang them and they sorted me out incredibly quickly. Gave me a loan car and sourced the parts and fixed it. No hassle and really nice to deal with.
