Tesla suspension repair in Auckland

Creaking, knocking and clunking over bumps, and tyres that wear on the inside edge. Suspension is the most common thing we fix on a Tesla, because two tonnes is hard on bushes, ball joints and arms.

Free diagnosis on the hoist. Quoted before any work starts.

What you are hearing

The parts that wear, and what they sound like

The noise, and when you hear it, narrows things down quickly. These are the components behind almost every Tesla suspension complaint that comes through the door, across all four models.

Creaking or squeaking Front upper control arms Heard while steering, or crawling over bumps at low speed. The most common single fault on a Model 3 or Model Y, and the first thing we look at.
Clunk over bumps Front upper control arms on S and X A single solid clunk from the front over expansion joints and speed bumps. The best-known Model S fault, and shared with the X.
Knocking, drifting alignment Compliance arm bushes Movement in the bush lets the wheel shift under load. You get knocking, and geometry that will not stay in spec, which is where inside-edge tyre wear starts.
Light rattling Sway-bar links and bushes A lighter, rattlier noise over rough surfaces rather than a solid knock. Cheap to put right once it has been identified.
Knocking from the strut top Dampers and top mounts Noise from the top of the strut rather than the arms. Worth checking before condemning anything, because the symptoms overlap.
Sagging or uneven ride height Air struts, lines and compressor Model S and Model X. A leak drops one corner overnight and works the compressor to death. We diagnose, repair and recalibrate ride height afterwards.

Not sure which one it is?

Neither are most people. Bring it in, we will put it on the hoist and tell you what we find. Nothing gets done until you have said yes to a quote.

Weight

Why Tesla suspension wears faster

A Model 3 is around 1,850 kg and a Model X closer to 2,500. That weight sits on the same bushes, ball joints and links any car uses, and it works them harder. Instant torque adds load every time you pull away from a light.

As those parts wear they let the wheel move, and the alignment moves with them. That is why suspension wear and inside-edge tyre wear turn up together, and why replacing tyres without checking the front end is money spent twice.

The diagnosis on the hoist costs nothing. If it needs parts you get a quote first, and you choose genuine Tesla or quality aftermarket.

Suspension questions

Why does my Tesla creak going over bumps? Most often the front upper control arms and their ball joints, particularly on a Model 3 or Model Y. Worn lower links, compliance bushes and top mounts can produce something similar, which is why it is worth having it on a hoist rather than guessing from the sound.
Why does my Model S or Model X clunk over bumps? Usually the front upper control arms. It is a single solid clunk rather than a rattle, and it shows up over expansion joints, speed bumps and driveways.
How long do Tesla control arms last? It varies with roads and kilometres, but we see them worn well before most owners expect. Auckland road surfaces and a heavy car are not a kind combination.
Can you repair Tesla air suspension? Yes. We diagnose the leak, replace struts, lines or the compressor, and recalibrate ride height afterwards. It is common work on the Model S and Model X.
Does worn suspension cause uneven tyre wear? Yes. Worn bushes and arms let the wheel move, the alignment drifts with it, and the inside edge of the front tyres goes first. Fixing the tyres without fixing the cause just buys you another set.
